Egypt Part 2 – Cruising the Nile

Our home for five days – The Sanctuary Sun Boat IV. Our room was on the second level looking west as we travelled south.
A row of feluccas sailing quietly upriver.
The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
A row of columns and sphinx at the Temple of Karnak
A moment captured.
There was no rain but the clouds were welcome.
They watched us, we watched them.
My favorite photo of the entire trip up river.
Our mode of river transport when not on board the ship.
Just past the locks at Esna.
A side street on the way to the Temple at Esna – the quiet just after prayer.
Ceiling and column detail of the Temple at Esna – Sitting in a 9 meter pit representing 1500 years of sand and sediment this temple was excellently preserved.
On the way back to the boat for cocktail hour.
Being on the sunset side of the boat was key.
See what I mean?
After a night of dancing I made sure to get a shot of the moon in the clear desert air.
Our last stop of this portion of the trip was a quick flight down Lake Nassar to the Abu Simbel Temples. Before the dam was installed at Aswan these massive statues were 60 meters lower on the mountain. They were systematically cut and reassembled above the current water line. A double engineering marvel.
One last moment of Zen…
